(408-406-7717, cell phone does not have text) at 7:50 AM for an 8:00 AM departure at the Houge Park parking lot next to the tennis courts off Twilight Dr. at White Oaks Ave., San Jose 95124 (37o15'26.6"N 121o56'31.6"W). We'll ride the pedestrian bridge over 85 to Shannon Road and then down to Harry Rd and climb steep Via Santa Teresa (optional flat route on Camden to bypass this hill) and return via Camden. There is an optional coffee stop at Starbucks at 85/Los Gatos Blvd at the end of the ride.

    Meet Chris & Max Mok (408-813-1270, winwin4fun@gmail.com) at the Sunnyvale Community Center, 550 E Remington Dr., Sunnyvale at 9:45 AM for a 10:00 AM start. This ride celebrates and utilizes bikeways, cut throughs, overpasses and bike paths including the Don Burnett Memorial Bridge. While this is not a flat ride, it is one of the "kinder and gentler" rides of the Saturday Shuffle series. There will be a water stop in Los Gatos Plaza Park and you can bring or buy lunch for a break in the Pruneyard Plaza by Pizza my Heart.

    Here is a ride option further north. We'll ride from Redwood Shores, through San Mateo, and Hillsborough, making our way up to Skyline - and then down and back up again, as we make our way north to the San Andreas trail in San Bruno. Then back to Burlingame for lunch. After lunch a flat route back to the start. Meet Mark Mack (mamack@comcast.net or 925-207-4993) at 10:00 AM in Redwood Shores at the parking lot near the Oracle headquarters so we can get started around 10:15 AM. Take 101 to the Ralston/Marine Parkway exit and go east - toward the big green Oracle buildings. Turn left on Oracle Parkway (stoplight) and turn left at the first intersection (stop sign) into the parking lot. Note - for those of you who took this ride earlier in the month, I'll try to cut down on the number of turns.

    Meet Howard Shafer (408 247-712-4573 or jhshafer@sbcglobal.net) and Jacquette Ward at the dirt parking lot 100 yards before the first (when coming from Saratoga) intersection of Highway 9 with Highway 236 at 10:30 AM for this shady ride. Highway 236 is the road through Big Basin State Park. We'll ride through beautiful redwood groves to Boulder Creek. After lunch there (bring or buy), we'll return through Big Basin. We will NOT ride on Highway 9. There is one famously steep hill on this ride, China Grade, but we'll ride it downhill, and we'll go slow. We'll be able to say we’ve done China Grade! We won't have to say which direction! We'll ride at a social B pace. Rain cancels.

    The Monday morning ride for bicyclists who live in the northern cities of the Peninsula is growing in numbers. It is a flat (except overpasses) route to Café Borrone in Menlo Park for coffee and/or breakfast. We return at a social pace through the quiet, residential streets in Menlo Park, Atherton, Redwood City, San Carlos, and Belmont. The Hill Climbers’ Option adds 12 to 16 miles to the ride. Meet at Los Prados Park at 8:30 AM for a departure at 8:45 AM. Directions: From 101, drive east on Hillsdale Blvd., take the first right on Norfolk St. and right again on La Selva; take the first left onto Casa de Campo. The Park is on the left.     My peeps, these two are stair stepping steep. They can make your bottom bracket creak, but the route will put a smile on your face all week. We will meet in the corner of the parking lot nearest the Shell gas station. This week's talk will be about "The Higgs Boson and the Fate of the Universe" by Joseph D.     Peter B. has now retired from leading this ride. In honor of his many years of dedicated service we have named the ride after him, and the immortal works of his ride description will be retained here, mostly intact. So here we go: Retired, home executive, between jobs, playing hooky? We’d love to have you join us each Tuesday during the year, rain or shine, at Starbucks in the Westmoor Shopping Center in Sunnyvale, corner of Fremont and Mary, at a later, civilized hour. The route is a variation of the Portola loop with lunch stops at various eating places in the Palo Alto area. There are hilly C and D routes as well as a flat route. All rides meet at 10:45 AM for a prompt 11:00 AM departure. The hilly route varies through the month. Routes in Excel and PDF format. Everyone assembles together at regroups and lunch.     This is a series of evening rides varying from 15 to 30 miles in Los Altos Hills, Portola Valley and Saratoga, sampling local hills and out-of-the-way roads.     In honor of Robin Williams, please join Richard Exley, Cindy Asrir and Midori for one of his favorite routes--the classic Paradise Loop ride. We'll start in San Francisco, ride across the Golden Gate Bridge, around Marin and the Paradise Loop and back. We'll stop for coffee in Sausalito and lunch at Tiburon and share our favorite Robin Williams stories along the way.

    There will be two ride options: C/2/51 leaving from SF Caltrain Terminus at 9:45 (after the 9:36 train arrives) and C/2.5/39 leaving from the west side of Sports Basement in the Presidio, meeting at 10:15 AM and riding at 10:30 AM (where we will be joined by the early riders). From highway 101, exit Marine Parkway (at Ralston) and go east. Take first turn left onto Oracle Parkway before the main Oracle Complex. The parking lot will be on the left. We will travel across the Oracle bike bridge to meet the Bay Trail in Foster City. From there we follow the Bay Trail to Coyote Point.  Flat and paved all the way.     The Complete Guide to Climbing calls this the hardest climb in California and compares it to Alp d’Huez. In just 13 miles we'll climb 5,200’ to Onion Valley (el. 9,200’). Option to do only 14 miles total and 3,400’ of climbing.  Long stretches of 8-10%. Meet at Dehy Park on the west side of US-395 at the north end of Independence. Look for the narrow gauge engine restoration that is going on at the site. When coming from the north, turn in just after crossing Independence Creek.     Another very difficult climb. We'll cycle through the Alabama Hills in route to the climb. Looking ahead, you'll see the giant switchbacks on the flanks of the Sierras. This is the steepest section but has some of the best views on earth of Owens Valley. A false summit is followed by a short descent before climbing resumes to Horseshoe Meadows (el. 10,080').     CAZADERO RAMBLE

    Join us for some spectacular riding North of the Russian River. This is a hilly ride, following the routes of the Cazadero LDT. After wandering North along Austin Creek Road, C- riders will take the direct route to the coast over hilly Fort Ross Road (LDT B Route) then stop in at Fort Ross State Park, while the C+/D group(s) will climb the breath-taking King Ridge Rd, then have the option to take a 50, 66, or 82 mile loop. Bring food and enough water for 30 to 45 miles between facilities, as lunch stops are near the end of the ride.

    MEETING LOCATION: Meet at 9:15 am for 9:30 departure at Gold Coast Coffee & Bakery (25377 Steelhead Blvd, Duncans Mills, CA). Take 101 North to Santa Rosa, exit on River Rd heading West. Follow River Rd into Guerneville. Go straight at the stop sign in Guerneville. Note: In Guerneville River Rd becomes Main St, then Main St becomes River Rd/Hwy 116. Continue on River Rd/Hwy 116 to Duncans Mills. Turn Left on Moscow Rd. Park on the street - not in front of the merchants. Driving time from Palo Alto is about 2.5 hours. 

    ACCOMMODATIONS:  We have reserved a nice group campsite at Casini Ranch Campground (casiniranch.com) for Friday and Saturday nights, which is less than a mile from the Saturday ride start and only 2.5 miles from the Sunday start in Monte Rio (contact ride leaders for information/rates). There are several small hotels/B&B’s in Monte Rio (where Sunday ride starts). Occidental Hotel (3610 Bohemian Hwy, Occidental, CA) is about 10 miles away in Occidental (occidentalhotel.com).
