    The Monday morning ride for bicyclists who live in the northern cities of the Peninsula is growing in numbers. It is a flat (except overpasses) route to Café Borrone in Menlo Park for coffee and/or breakfast. We return at a social pace through the quiet, residential streets in Menlo Park, Atherton, Redwood City, San Carlos, and Belmont. The Hill Climbers’ Option adds 12 to 16 miles to the ride. Meet at Los Prados Park at 8:30 AM for a departure at 8:45 AM. Directions: From 101, drive east on Hillsdale Blvd., take the first right on Norfolk St. and right again on La Selva; take the first left onto Casa de Campo. The Park is on the left.     If you are not ready for the faster pace of the other Monday morning Café Borrone rides until after you've had your coffee, then this ride might be just right for you.  Let's try it this month and see if there is enough interest to continue.  Meet Tom Stephany (650-483-4273 day of ride only) at Rengstoriff Community Center, 201 S. Rengstoriff Avenue, Mountain View.  Meet in the parking lot near the Community Center Building off of Rengstorff Avenue.  We'll meet at 8:45 AM for a 9:00 AM departure for Café Borrone in Menlo Park.  Very flat, and we'll travel at a mild, social, and comfortable "A" pace.  Nobody left behind, we are in this together.  Rain cancels.

Return at a social pace through quiet residential streets. Meet at the Undiscovered Country Cycling Center down the street from the Lucky's parking lot, less than 1/4 mile north of Homestead Rd. (address is 2449 Grant Road for the map-inclined) at 9:15 AM for a 9:30 AM departure. This is next door to Lucky's.     Peter B. has now retired from leading this ride. In honor of his many years of dedicated service we have named the ride after him, and the immortal works of his ride description will be retained here, mostly intact. So here we go: Retired, home executive, between jobs, playing hooky? We’d love to have you join us each Tuesday during the year, rain or shine, at Starbucks in the Westmoor Shopping Center in Sunnyvale, corner of Fremont and Mary, at a later, civilized hour. The route is a variation of the Portola loop with lunch stops at various eating places in the Palo Alto area. There are hilly C and D routes as well as a flat route. All rides meet at 10:45 AM for a prompt 11:00 AM departure. The hilly route varies through the month. Routes in Excel and PDF format. Everyone assembles together at regroups and lunch.     Join Robert Sexton (robert@kudra.com408.218.8466) and Mark Bagnola (mbagnola@mac.com) for a fast lunchtime ride from Cupertino into the hills around Stevens Creek Reservoir.  Typical routes include one of: Montebello, Redwood Gulch, or Villa Montalvo/Peach, and are finalized at the ride meet to be about 90 minutes long with a brief regroup at the top of the hill(s) of choice.  Meet behind the Cupertino Target ( intersection of Alves Drive and Saich Way) by noon for a 12:05 Sharp Sharp departure.  Falling rain cancels.

    Join us each Wednesday evening for a moderately-paced ride around Portola Valley and the Los Altos Hills.  Climbs are moderate, allowing us to get out on the bike for a quick midweek evening ride and have some fun with other cool cyclists! Meet at 6:00 pm in front of Mike's Bikes in Palo Alto; wheels roll at 6:10 pm (park on the street or behind the store). Mike's will host a free BBQ once a month following the ride--all are welcome to ride and then stay and eat!

    Meet Annie Armstrong and Bill Eaglstein at the Alameda Ferry Dock at 9:30 AM for a prompt 9:45 AM departure. Please note earlier time. We'll step out of time in Alameda by the Bay, going through its former naval base and amusement park turned state park. We'll then get lost in the maze of lagoons of Bay Farm Island before finding our way back to Alameda for a late lunch in a Burmese restaurant followed by a tour of some of its finest Victorians. About half of the route follows bike paths. Directions: From the South, take 880 going North and reach Alameda Island by Fruitvale Ave. going West. After crossing the Fruitvale Bridge the road is called Tilden Way. Turn left on Park then right on Central. Continue on Central which becomes Main. Continue past the signs for Rosenblum Cellars on your right and take a right into the parking lot to the Ferry Dock. If the Ferry Doc lot is full there is street parking nearby.     This is a series of evening rides varying from 15 to 30 miles in Los Altos Hills, Portola Valley and Saratoga, sampling local hills and out-of-the-way roads. Meet at 6:00 PM at Shoup Park in Los Altos, just off University Ave. This year we will have three ride group options: C-, C+ and D, with route options suitable for each group. From highway 101, exit Marine Parkway (at Ralston) and go east. Take first turn onto Oracle Parkway before the main Oracle Complex. The parking lot will be on the left. We will travel across the Oracle bike bridge to meet the Bay Trail in Foster City. From there we follow the Bay Trail to Coyote Point.  Flat and paved all the way. Lunch at the Poplar Creek Golf Course, bring or buy. We return on the same trail. Rain cancels.

We will meet in the corner of the parking lot nearest the Shell gas station. This week's talk will be about "Our Galactic Center" by Reinhard Genzel of UC Berkeley. For more on the talk, visit the SETI web site at: www.seti.org. We will pick up lunch at the Subway sandwich shop in Mountain View to take to SETI.     Meet John Francia Deven (510-468-2088jfdeven425@gmail.com) at 8:00 AM in the small parking lot at Cardoza Park, 1315 Kennedy Dr. Milpitas, CA. Look for a Maroon Scion xB.  Wheels roll at 8:15 AM. Sierra Road is a very challenging climb.  The initial climb when you turn the corner from Piedmont looks very daunting. Don't be intimidated! It's just a hill! The whole climb is 3.5 miles long with an average grade of 9%. http://www.strava.com/segments/615834. After the Sierra Rd. climb we ride through gentle rolling hills and tour Calaveras Rd to enjoy the views of Calaveras Reservoir.     Meet Tom Stephany (650-483-4273 day of ride only) at Boat Launch Park in Foster City at 9:45 AM for a 10:00 AM departure. The nationally famous Bay Area Dragon Boat Team will be practicing at the harbor. There is plenty of parking. A scenic ride through parts of Foster City to the Bay trail, through quite light traffic streets of San Mateo and Belmont. Lunch at Whole Foods shopping complex in San Mateo a little more than the halfway point in the ride. Several choices are available for lunch. Cross the Dumbarton Bridge, then head south along quiet roads to San Jose and return to Palo Alto via the San Francisco Bay Trail. The Sunnyvale part of the Bay Trail is hard-packed dirt for a few miles. Our route is flat except for gentle climbs over the Dumbarton Bridge and a few freeway crossings. Highway 236 is the road through Big Basin State Park. We'll ride through beautiful redwood groves to Boulder Creek. After lunch there (bring or buy), we'll return through Big Basin. We will NOT ride on Highway 9. There is one famously steep hill on this ride, China Grade, but we'll ride it downhill, and we'll go slow. We'll be able to say we’ve done China Grade!
