Hello fellow Western Wheelers,
It was wonderful to see so many Western Wheelers at the Oktoberfest picnic at Rengstorff Park last weekend. A very big thank you goes out to Jerry Woods, Janet Pierce and Bettina Vinsant and the members of their team for all of their hard work to make the event such a success. With record numbers of attendees the event was fabulous, with great food, great weather and wonderful company.
Thanks to J.C. Sarner for all of his hard work and dedication for putting together the Fall Fun Series rides. I’ve had a chance to go on all of the rides so far and they have been marvelous with record turn-outs each week, challenging fun routes and really great fall weather.
Website News: You may have noticed some changes on the WWBC website in the last few weeks. Our new website is no longer in the “Under Construction” phase and our old site is no longer a second home page. The old website will continue to function as a historical archive and we still a few items on it that will be moved over to the new site in the upcoming weeks.
Another change that you will see shortly will be the use of member discussion forums. This change is one that may require some action on your part to decide how you want to receive club information. We have established a set of discussion forums where members can discuss a variety of topics and other forums that we will be using for posting Club information. There are several categories of forums and we encourage you to try them out. In order to reduce the number of emails you receive from the Club we are moving some of the things you get via email right now-most notably Impromptu Ride Notices-to the discussion forums. You then have the option of simply visiting the site to see Impromptu announcements or subscribing to get an email about it. There is also a forum where ride leaders can post last minute cancellations. You can find more detailed information about Impromptus and other topics in the Forum Guidelines at the top of each forum and in a Help page called “Using the Discussion Forums”. You can get to the forums by clicking the Discussion Forums link on the right hand side of the website. Look for an article about the Discussion Forums and other changes to the web site in the November Flat Tyre.
Be sure to mark your calendars for the upcoming club events:
November 29 -Blood Drive at Stanford Blood Center Hillview Ave-from 4 pm-7 pm. It’s best if you make an appointment ahead of time at:http://bloodcenter.stanford.edu/ Each donor will receive an AMC Theatre movie ticket.
December 2-Holiday Party-Look for details in the November Flat Tyre for the menu. We ask that everyone sign up ahead of time on the website.
December 16-Christmas Lights Walk and Potluck-this year the traditional Christmas Lights Ride will be a walk and Potluck at Judy DeFranco’s home. If you plan on attending Judy is asking that you sign up on the website so that she can know how many people to expect. Due to space limitations attendance will be limited to 60.
I hope you will consider leading a ride in November or December. The deadline for listing rides in the November Flat Tyre is Sunday October 21. Please help keep the club strong by volunteering to lead a ride. The ride coordinators will be more than happy to help you design a ride.
If leading a ride doesn’t fit into your schedule right now you might consider hosting a mailing party instead. It’s fun and easy and the club pays the bill for dinner. Contact Bettina Vinsant at email@example.com to schedule a month that works for you.
Contact the appropriate ride coordinator listed below to list your ride:
