Hills R Us|Social Climbers

Ride summary, route sheets (please print a copy for yourself if you need one), elevation profiles and related information for the weekly Wednesday Hills R Us & Social Climbers rides starting and ending at Shoup Park in Los Altos.

April–October (the months that are completely Daylight Saving Time) Hills R Us meets at 9 am and rolls promptly at 9:15. November–March (the months that are either Standard Time or only partially DST) we meet at 10 am to roll out at 10:15. The D Social Climbers meet and roll out 15 minutes earlier, to do the same ride at a more “social” pace.

Hills R Us is rated DE/3-4/35-70, Social Climbers is rated D/3-4/35-70.

Ride leaders usually pick the route 1–2 days in advance, so please check on Monday and/or Tuesday before the ride for the route announcement. If you'd prefer to receive automatic notifications of updates to this blog (which does NOT include comments added to blog entries), click on the "RSS" icon next to the title of this page. What you need to do after that varies widely depending on your computer and its configuration. It may all be taken care of auto-magically, or you may have to do a bit of work. Just remember that the frequency of updates is pretty low—weekly, sometime from Sunday to Tuesday before the ride, so you could almost as conveniently just visit this blog.

  • Bob Shultz passed away

    Bob Shultz was an ACTC member who used to ride regularly with Hills R Us until January 2012. He had been battling cancer since then. I read on the ACTC email list that he passed away this morning. When funeral and memorial service information are posted to the ACTC email list, I will add it to this blog post.

    5/27 update: The funeral will be a private family service. There will be a public memorial service at the West Valley Presbyterian Church in Cupertino in about 10 days to 2 weeks, details to be announced.

    5/30 update from Bob’s CarePage by his wife Carol:

    Bob's Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, June 16th at 4:00 PM. It will be held at West Valley Presbyterian Church, 6191 Bollinger Rd. in Cupertino. I cannot imagine a more fitting date to honor Bob than on Fathers’ Day! A Mexican Buffet will follow the Memorial service.

    We hope that you will join us on this special occasion.

    The original route for wed is very long. Thus I have modified it. The new route is: Redwood Gulch, Hwy 9 to Boulder Creek, back route to China Grade, 236 to Hwy 9, Skyline North and home on Page.

    It is going to be warm so we are going to try and stay in the shade. Page Mill, West Alpine, 84 to Stage Road. Return via Tunitas and Kings.

    54 miles, approx. 6600 ft (according to RideWithGPS. Steve Chapel is ride leader.
