**IMPROMPTU* D/4(5600')/66 METRIC TOUR

  • Sat, August 13, 2016
  • 9:30 AM
  • Pioneer Hotel, Woodside

Meet Frank Houghton (312-479-4790, fphoughton@yahoo.com) and Tim Valderrama at 9:30 AM at Pioneer Hotel, Woodside (meet us en route if you can't make it to Woodside).

Did you know in 1849, John Whistman started a stagecoach run between San Francisco & San Jose? The route took 9 hours and cost over a month's salary. On Saturday we won't be doing a SF-SJ route, but it will be a tad bit longer with a lot more climbing than Whistman had to contend with (and we will finish in far less than 9hrs).

Starting in Woodside (a town once rumored to be named Whiskey Hill), we are planning to ride Alpine, Joaquin, a bit of Page Mill and a whole lot of Redwood Gulch as part of the tour. We will stop briefly in Saratoga for some nourishment, but feel free to forgo the stop - or stay, have a beer and call for a Lyft. Regroups at the top and bottom of every climb will be respected as want to enjoy some riding and each other's company!

Here is the route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/15782568 If you prefer a printed route sheet, please print one as we will not have any to share.

BONUS: If you need to get your Strava Gran Fondo challenge in this month, you can add on another 14 miles to add to the route.

If by the grace of the heavens, it happens to rain we will dance like nobody is watching! If it's raining at start time, don't kid yourself, you have nothing better to do, so we will make our way to the pub and wax poetically about the long journey Whistman and his passengers often endured!
