Join Joan Marshall and Hal Tompkins for a two day ride - Hwy 395/Benton Crossing Loop. This route starts at the Mammoth Airport, goes north on 395, turns right at 120 to follow Mono Lake a few miles and on into Benton Hot Springs. Second day route takes the Benton Crossing Road west toward Crowley Lake to 395, returning to Mammoth Airport. 

Limit 20. Members Only. Please make your own overnight reservation for Benton Hot Springs. Rooms at the Inn, cottage rentals, and camping available. See info at the bottom of this page. 

Pace: B - Casual, social pace.

Total Miles: 101.6 (Over two days)

Total Climbing: 6401 (Over two days) 

Itinerary:

Thursday - Depart from Bay Area. Six to eight-hour drive, depending on which roads are open. Dinner TBD.

9AM start. 66.2 miles. Google estimates 6 hrs. 3215 feet of climbing. 4705 feet descent. Bring lunch and plenty of water.

Stay in Benton Hot Springs overnight. You will need panniers or backpack, and water carrying capacity of at least 2 quarts. Ride to Benton, another three miles for dinner at the only place in town, the local gas station. So, don't get excited about the food. We can experience the hot springs, explore, or whatever. Benton also has a small convenience store for buying lunch.

9AM Start 35.4 miles. 3186 feet climbing. 1690 feet descent. Google estimates 3 hrs. & 48 min. Bring lunch (or possibly buy at the gas station), and plenty of water.

Dinner TBD.

Sunday - Pack up and drive home.

There are no water stops between Mammoth and Benton in either direction. Load up on water before departure.

Our friends, the Simpsons, who live in Swall Meadows near Mammoth, have graciously offered their home to the first ten sign ups, for the night before and the night after the ride. Otherwise, you will need to find your own lodging. There is no overnight parking in Mammoth.
