B/2!/33 Alameda Creek Trail and Morrison Canyon

  • Sun, October 19, 2014
  • 10:00 AM
  • Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge Parking Lot, 1 Marshlands Rd, Fremont

Meet Howard Shafer (408-7612-4573 or jhshafer@sbcglobal.net) at 10:00 AM in the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge parking lot on Marshlands Road for a 10:15 AM departure. (Take the Dumbarton Bridge/Highway 84 across the Bay; get off at the first exit on the east side; turn right and drive to Marshlands Road. Turn right. The parking lot is on your right after about one quarter mile). We’ll follow hardpacked dirt trails (suitable for road bikes) through Coyote Hills and along bayland dikes to the beginning of the Alameda Creek Trail. We'll ride the full length of this paved trail and then climb Morrison Canyon Road. Never heard of Morrison Canyon? This most unusual 2.5 mile (one way) out and back climb is not to be missed. You might see bison or aeronautical research. It is steep, but we'll ride at a slow pace. We'll have lunch at a genuine German Deli on the way back. If the (only) hill is too hard, you can skip it. We will regroup at lunch. Rain cancels. Muddy paths will alter route. If in doubt call before the ride.
