This route goes up Calaveras, a 3-mile climb with an overall average grade of 6%, including a few short, steeper sections. The fun, fun, fun rollers overlooking Calaveras reservoir make it all worthwhile, though. The D ride spices things up a little, with the addition of the tough 3-mile climb up Sierra Rd. After Sierra, the “parcours” rejoins the C route. Then it's down to Pleasanton for lunch (26 miles). The good news is that the return via Calaveras is not as steep. Meet at 9:45 AM for a 10:00 AM start in the Target parking lot of the shopping mall located at the corner of Landess Ave. and Morrill Ave. in Milpitas. Park on the side closest to Montague/Landess. Contact J.C. Sarner jcsarner@msn.com or (650) 854-4125 for more information. Rain or extreme heat cancels.
Three options are offered on FFS rides: Slower C group (C-) with social pace and mandatory regroups; Faster C group (C+) with a bit faster pace and shorter regroups; D group with a bit longer and/or tougher route.
