TWFK provides breakfast, lunch and validated parking (limited spaces available, carpooling encouraged) to volunteers. Volunteers spend from 8 am to about 1 pm at the event. While most will assemble bikes—from kids' coaster-brake bikes with training wheels to low-end mountain-bikes or road-bikes with derailleurs, volunteers are also needed to perform quality control (inspect assembled bikes for correct assembly and setup), help at event check-in, clear cartons and debris from the work areas to recycling bins, and/or help unload boxed bikes from and load assembled bikes into transport trucks.
Last year (2013) was the first time the Western Wheelers sent a team. The 5 team members all had a great time building bikes at the event. This year the Western Wheelers will subsidize $50 of each member's $100 pre-registration fee, for up to 10 member-volunteers.
The BBB itself is on Saturday December 6, 2014 from 8 am until about 1 pm. Pre-registration opens Friday October 17, 2014 at 8 am Pacific Time, and ends Saturday October 25, 2014 at 11:30 pm Pacific Time.
Contact Michael Khaw first to find out whether you’re among the first 10, i.e., to qualify for the club subsidy. Then, go to the pre-registration web page, click “Participate as an individual” and pay the full amount of $100 (plus $6.24 fee) with your credit card. Email a copy of your pre-registration confirmation to Michael Khaw, who will compile a list of members who volunteered and submit it to the club for your $50 reimbursement.
