C, D/8(5200’)/26 Eastern Sierras - Onion Valley

  • Thu, September 18, 2014
  • 8:30 AM
  • Dehy Park, west side of US-395, north end of Independence

The Complete Guide to Climbing calls this the hardest climb in California and compares it to Alp d’Huez. In just 13 miles we'll climb 5,200’ to Onion Valley (el. 9,200’). Option to do only 14 miles total and 3,400’ of climbing.  Long stretches of 8-10%. Meet at Dehy Park on the west side of US-395 at the north end of Independence. Look for the narrow gauge engine restoration that is going on at the site. When coming from the north, turn in just after crossing Independence Creek. Buy lunch at the end of the ride.  Ride leaves at 8:30 AM, please arrive beforehand. For more information contact Dick Matthews: 408-866-0451 (home), 408-529-8382 (cell) or rmatthews2@aol.com.
